The After-Dark Challenge: 5 Night Walks to Test Your Senses
The game changes when the sun goes down. In our “Night Owl” collection, the clues are different. You can’t rely on shadows or daylight details. Instead, you have to navigate by the glow of neon signs, the style of street lamps, and the energy of the nightlife.
This is just a small sample of our full collection of night-time walks. Use these to test your detective skills, and then jump into the game to discover the rest!
1. Hoi An, Vietnam
This location is truly magical. Known as the “City of Lanterns,” Hoi An at night is a beautiful, peaceful walk. The biggest clue, of course, is the sea of colorful paper lanterns lighting up the streets and the river. You won’t find neon signs or skyscrapers here, just the unique, warm glow of a city preserved in time.
2. Bangkok, Thailand
Get ready for the opposite experience! This walk takes you through one of the most famous backpacker and party streets in the world: Khao San Road. It’s a chaotic, vibrant scene. Your clues here are the sheer density of people, the English-language signs for bars and clubs, and the Thai script on official buildings. It’s a fun, high-energy guessing challenge.
3. Singapore
Welcome to the future. A night walk in Singapore, especially around Marina Bay, is like stepping into a science fiction movie. The clues are unmistakable: the iconic, triple-towered Marina Bay Sands hotel, the glowing “Supertrees” of Gardens by the Bay, and the ultra-modern, clean city streets. The language on signs is often in English, so your challenge is to pinpoint your location in this high-tech wonderland.
4. Brasov, Romania
This walk offers a completely different, and very special, atmosphere. It’s a moody, rain-slicked tour of a beautiful old European town. The challenge here is the weather! The rain and thunderstorm make it harder to see, so you must rely on the unique shape of the Transylvanian architecture. Look for the German-style buildings and the Romanian language on any signs you can spot through the rain.
5. Istanbul, Turkey
A city where continents and cultures collide. A night tour in Istanbul is a mix of ancient and modern. You might see the glow of a historic mosque in the distance, then turn a corner into a bustling, modern neighborhood like Karaköy, full of trendy cafes. Your best clues are the Turkish language on signs (look for letters like ‘ş’ or ‘ğ’) and the city’s unique position right on the water.
